In 1964 James, second son of Nikolaus and Gene, was born in Wolfratshausen, Germany. He has an older brother, Timothy and a younger sister Nicola.

After school James completed an apprenticeship in shutter making and did a second one to make him a hearing aid technician.

He passed his master of crafts examinations as a hearing aid technician in 1996 and now works in Dillingen, Germany
