Bernd is the son of Bernd Hilgenberg and lives together with his wife Dagmar in Remscheid, near Wuppertal. He also has a sister Petra, married to Martin Kleinmann.

He says his family name comes from a town called Melsungen, near Kassel - there’s a Castle Heiligenberg - which is modern High German for… yes Hilgenberg - from the Mountain/Hill of the Sacret or Saints, and suggests it might at one point have been “von Hilgenberg” making it part of German nobility… well we can always dream.

Another German Hilgenberg is Olav, he is married to Alexandra and lives in Hamburg.

My grandmother and aunt have both compiled family trees. One which I have seen and dates back to the 1500’s. The other was made for WWII to prove there was no Jewish strains in the family line. The latter I haven’t yet seen.

Here some information on my family: My father’s name is Herbert and my mother’s name is Brigitte, both German born and raised. I have a sister D’Arcey. My fathers parents names were Ruth and Werner. Werner had a brother named Eric and two sisters whose names I don’t know off the top of my head. My father has a brother Gerry and two sisters,Heidi and Margaret
